On World Book Day, we explored the mysterious illustrations from The Water Tower without reading the story. We looked closely at the eerie pictures and imagined what might have been happening. Was the strange water tower hiding a dark secret? Why did the people in the town look so worried? We discussed our ideas in small groups, taking on the roles of the characters — such as curious villagers, brave explorers, or secretive scientists. We acted out scenes, imagining strange noises echoing from inside the tower and creating stories full of suspense and mystery. Then, using our role-play as inspiration, we wrote our own creative stories, describing what we thought had happened in the pictures. We used descriptive language to build tension and left our readers wondering what would happen next!
